New Theatre Rumour: David Tennant In Richard II For The RSC ?

Rumours have appeared on the internet today that David Tennant will be returning to perform for the Royal Shakespeare Company sometime next year.

The buzz follows a post on the WhatsOnStage forum by member paultheatre that David was due to star in Richard II, directed by Gregory Doran. Gregory Doran took over as the Artistic Director of the RSC in September this year and recently received great praise for his production of Julius Caesar. He previously directed David in Hamlet and Loves Labours Lost.

The RSC summer season has already been announced, so any new production would not be likely to appear on the schedules before autumn 2013 at the earliest. However, Gregory Doran is due to announce his first season, for winter 2013/14, early next year.

David Tennant named Richard II as one of the Shakespeare plays that he would still most like to perform during his guest talk at the Lords Of Time convention in September. Read about what he had to say here.

Despite all of the speculation, nothing has been confirmed about this possible production. A spokesperson for the RSC said about the rumours earlier: "We don't have any comments to make on this"
