Record Breaking Doctor Who Stamp Range Launches Today

The Royal Mail selection of Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Commemorative Stamps and related collectables goes on sale today after record-breaking pre-orders.

The special edition features twelve First Class stamps, each dedicated to one incarnation of the Doctor and the TARDIS along with second class stamps a selection of his foes. Each Doctor is backed by their own specific title sequence and the first two Doctors are featured in monochrome as their episodes were broadcast in black and white. The Royal Mail are offering a range of stamp sets, miniature sheets, first day covers and presentation packs and a prestige book with text by writer and Doctor Who expert Gary Russell.

The range also includes a selection of Doctor Who themed gifts and collectibles, including framed sets, pin badges and postcards.

Pre-registration for the stamp sets broke all previous Royal Mail records with three times more signing up than for any other commemorative set that the Royal Mail has ever produced. Andrew Hammond, the managing director of the stamps and collectibles division at Royal Mail, said:

“Following our launch announcement last year, we've had a fantastic response from the public who seemingly can't wait for the stamps. This shows just how much we all love Doctor Who.
The time has come and we are delighted that the stamps are now on sale, meaning fans of all ages can send their letters with one of their favourite Doctors on. This is a fitting tribute to this remarkable 50th anniversary and we hope our stamps will enable people across the UK to feel part of the celebrations of such a national treasure.”

The stamps were officially launched by three previous incarnations of the Doctor: Tom Baker, Peter Davison and Paul McGann.

The new stamps and related products are available to order from the Royal Mail shop to customers both in the UK and overseas
