Broadchurch Exits On All Time Ratings High




The final episode of Broadchurch was watched by an average of 8.73 million viewers last night, an audience share of 33.4%. This includes the +1 figure of 344, 000. At its peak, 9.28 million were watching to see the murderer of eleven year old Danny Latimer finally revealed. It was the show's biggest overnight audience to date, and it is thought that the full consolidated figure, released after seven days, will top 10 million.

At the same time BBC1 documentary The Prisoners was watched by 2.8 million viewers, a 10.7% share. Ben Fogle’s new series for Channel 5, New Lives in the Wild, began with 1.2 million viewers giving a 4.5% share.

ITV announced after the closing credits last night that Broadchurch would be returning for a second series. Writer Chris Chibnall has not confirmed whether any of the original cast, including David Tennant and Olivia Colman, will be returning.
