WARNING: Contains spoilers

------------------------------

Today saw the first day of filming for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special and the first fan photo has reached the internet.

Witnesses reported that David Tennant, Matt Smith and Billie Piper were all on set today on location in Neath. Other witness reports and pictures also revealed the  presence of the Tenth Doctor's TARDIS and a medieval style tent.

The picture below, though distant, shows David Tennant standing to the right of the group with Billie Piper beside him.

David Tennant, Billie Piper, Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman and John Hurt have all been confirmed for the celebratory episode, and last night the BBC confirmed that Gavin And Stacey star Joanna Page would also be joining the cast. Today it was announced that the classic foes the Zygons would be returning to face the Doctor for this episode.

  2. It's all well and good saying "Where's (insert favourite living Doctor actor)"... but the fact is that they no longer look like the Doctor that they once portrayed, They may have cameos as other characters, but that would be all.

    1. They had Peter Davison back for an in continuity web-only short with Tennent and explained the aging as a side effect of the two doctors being in the same location.

    1. Pretty sure one of the reasons he's not gonna be there is because his previous commitment to the American TV show, Arrow. Very disappointing, though :(

    2. No John Barrowman said he was given time off from arrow to do the 50th anniversary special but he was never asked to appear.

  4. And, not all actors are interested in returning to Doctor Who - and others may have previous scheduling commitments that make them unable to do so. I doubt it is as simple as the BBC saying 'no, we don't want (insert character here) to be part of the 50th Anniversary Special.'

  5. I am so excited. I love Rose and David Tennant.

  6. All I can say is, they'd better damn well do more than just pay lip service to the Doctors who came before. If it's just the new series' Doctors, then it's not an anniversary celebration at all. It's just the current BBC crew engaging in self-fetishization.

  10. While we'd all like to see our favorite character we also have to remember that the plot needs to make some kind of sense. I can't imagine too many storylines that could involve everyone. I do remember John Barrowman saying in an interview that he'd like to be a part of the 50th anniversary episode, so it is disappointing that he wasn't invited to the party.
