In Stitches: A Celebration Of RSC Costume Opens Today

The RSC's In Stitches: A Celebration Of RSC Costume featuring items worn by David Tennant opens today.
The free exhibition which runs through the company's Summer and Winter seasons also includes costumes worn by Ian McKellern, Judy Dench, Mark Rylance and Derek Jacobi. The 35 handcrafted pieces illustrate the incredible skills of tailoring, dyeing, printing, leatherwork, beading, corsetry, millinery and jewellery making that are all required to create each hugely detailed piece

In connection with the exhibition, the RSC are also launching a new appeal - Made In Stratford - that aims to raise £1 million to sustain the RSC’s legacy of theatre making and support essential craft skills, facilities and training.

The RSC say:

This year sees a glorious celebration of costume displayed throughout our home in Stratford-upon-Avon.
For the whole of the RSC's Summer and Winter season in 2013/14, In Stitches takes over our theatres, revealing highlights from the RSC's costume collection along with new artistic responses, interactive displays and your chance to try on RSC theatre costume in our special dressing up box.
Showing the specialist skills and imagination of artists, designers and makers, In Stitches: A Celebration of RSC Costume will draw on the company's rich heritage in creating a huge variety of costume for our work on stage.
