The award-winning crime series Broadchurch begins on Dutch language channel Vitaya in Belgium this week.

In Broadchurch, een pittoreske gemeenschap aan de kustlijn,
kent iedereen iedereen en gaat het leven elke dag z’n gangetje. Tot de bevolking
abrupt opgeschrikt wordt door de mysterieuze dood van de 11-jarige Danny
Latimer. Moord, luidt het verdict van de wetsdokter. Een slag in het gezicht
van de ouders, en van de hele gemeenschap. De inwoners komen plots in het oog
van een mediastorm te staan, die nefaste sporen nalaat. Bovendien blijken
sommige inwoners er bijzondere geheimen op na te houden… Eén vraag houdt de
hele gemeenschap in de ban: wie heeft de jonge Danny vermoord?
De Britse misdaadreeks is van de hand van Chris Chibnall,
die ook zijn stempel drukte op Law and Order: UK en Doctor Who. David Tennant en
Olivia Colman zetten hoofdpersonages Alec Hardy en Ellie Miller neer. Hardy is
nieuw in Broadchurch en heeft geen enkele band met het dorpje. Hij wordt er
alleen naartoe gestuurd als gevolg van zijn promotie tot politie-inspecteur.
Een job waarop ook Miller, die de buurt en de mensen wél door en door kent, had
gerekend. Dat de spanning tussen de twee te snijden is, hoeft geen betoog.
Hardy’s eigenzinnige aanpak dwingt Miller er bovendien toe het dorp waar ze
opgroeide met andere ogen te gaan bekijken.

Inspecteur Alex Hardy zet samen met zijn collega Ellie
Miller zijn tanden in het onderzoek naar de dood van een 11-jarig jongetje in
de kleine gemeenschap Broadchurch. Er staan de familie harde tijden te wachten.
Ze hebben het, net zoals alle andere inwoners van Broadchurch, erg moeilijk met
de mediastorm die de zaak heeft doen ontstaan.

Het mysterie rond de dood van de 11-jarige Danny wordt
alsmaar groter. De familie Latimer heeft het ondertussen ontzettend moeilijk
met het plotse verlies. Dominee Paul Coates besluit de lokale media toe te
spreken over de zaak.

The British crime series is written by Chris Chibnall, who
also made his mark on Law and Order: UK
and Doctor Who. David Tennant and
Olivia Colman play protagonists Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller. Hardy's new in
Broadchurch and has no connection with the town. He is only sent there as a
result of his promotion to police inspector, a job which also Miller, who knows
the neighbourhood and the people through and through, also bargained for. That there
is tension between the two, goes without saying. Hardy's idiosyncratic approach
compels Miller, furthermore, to see the town where she with different eyes.

family. They have, like all other residents of Broadchurch, found it very
difficult to deal with with the media storm that the case has created.

The Latimer family is finding it extremely difficult to cope with with their
sudden loss. Reverend Paul Coates decides the to speak to local media about the
case.
