The Day Of The Doctor Wins At The Freesat Free TV Awards

The Doctor Who 50th anniversary special The Day Of The Doctor was announced as the winner of the Best Of British category at the Freesat Free TV Awards tonight. The awards were presented during the ceremony hosted by TV comic Marcus Brigstocke in Central London in front of an invited VIP audience of celebrities and representatives from the media and broadcasters.

The programme saw of competition from ITV's Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Downton Abbey, and BBC One shows Sherlock and Strictly Come Dancing.

The Freesat Free TV Awards in association with TV Times were instigated six years ago to celebrate all that is good about Free TV in the UK. This year 50 shortlististed entries selected from over 200 TV, radio and interactive channels battled it out in the ten categories.

Other winners tonight included Educating Yorkshire (Best Factual Series or Programme) and Line Of Duty (Best TV Drama). The full list of winners will be published on the Freesat Awards site
