AUSTRALIA: TV Tonight Recommends The Politician's Husband Starring David Tennant

David Knox of Australian TV blog TV Tonight has given a glowing recommendation to The Politician's Husband, the three part political drama starring David Tennant and Emily Watson. The series will premiere in Australia on the new premium Foxtel channel BBC First.

The Politician's Husband explores what happens in a political marriage when the wife becomes more successful than her husband. David Tennant plays high-flying cabinet minister Aiden Hoynes whose public humiliation after a failed leadership bid is compounded when his wife Freya, a former Junior Minister, is offered an influential cabinet post. Aiden, consumed with jealousy, will do anything to regain power, even if this means betraying those closest to him. The drama also stars Ed Stoppard, Roger Allam, Jack Shepherd and Oscar Kennedy.

Knox says:
"Tennant and Watson are gifted with a mini-House of Cards by writer Paula Milne. While it divides its conflict between domestic and political arenas, the material offers plenty of range. With their marriage at risk of imploding, issues of trust, power, honesty and paranoia are up front and centre. Tennant especially revels in scenes of rage and political chess-games. Watson keeps her cards astutely close to her chest.

"Ed Stoppard and Jack Shepherd, in particular, are very effective in support roles, facilitating the centrestage drama.

"The Politician’s Husband is a smart essay on sacrifice and trust, with two dynamic performers who revel in the best it has to offer."

The Politician's Husband will air on Mondays starting from 4th August on BBC First
