ITV To Screen David Tennant Drama Gracepoint In The UK

ITV appear to have acquired the rights to show Gracepoint, the US remake of Broadchurch, in the UK. It was already revealed that the broadcaster, who commissioned and screened the original series last year, had first refusal on the FOX TV produced re-imagining of the show.

Radio Times report that ITV are putting the finishing touches to the deal with Fox and Shine America and will shortly be announcing which of their channels will carry the ten-part limited series.

David Tennant travelled to Canada early this year to star alongside Anna Gunn in Gracepoint, reprising his lead role, though this time as an American detective called Emmett Carver. Anna Gunn plays Ellie Miller, and other cast includes Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Kevin Zegers and Sarah-Jane Potts. The series will premiere on Fox in the USA and on the Global Network in Canada this autumn. It is thought that Gracepoint will air in the UK a few weeks after the North American screenings.

Like the original series Broadchurch, Gracepoint follows the police investigation into the murder of a young boy in a small coastal town and explores the impact of the event on the immediate family and wider community. A recently released trailer mainly featuring footage from the first episode which was written by series creator Chris Chibnall and directed by James Strong, showed familiar characters and dialogue prompting many fans to be anxious that the series was to be a shot-for-shot remake; however stars and creatives alike, including David Tennant, Kevin Zegers, Chris Chibnall and former Fox head Kevin Reilly, have all assured viewers that the story diverges from the original with new characters, suspects and storylines and, most importantly, a new ending
