PHOTOS: David Tennant In Nan's Christmas Carol With Catherine Tate #ThrowbackThursday

Today's #ThrowbackThursday is a collection of photos from David Tennant's appearance as a festive ghost in Nan's Christmas Carol.

Nan's Christmas Carol, originally shown on BBC One on Christmas Day 2009, is a Catherine Tate Show Christmas Special. Unlike the usual multi-character sketch format of the show, the 50 minute special focused on just one character, foul mouthed pensioner Joannie Taylor, aka Nan.

The comic retelling of the Dickens classic A Christmas Carol saw Joan casting her northern relatives out on the street on Christmas Eve before being visited by four ghosts overnight: her dead husband Jake (Dominic Coleman), the Ghost of Christmas Past (Ben Miller), the Ghost of Christmas Present (David Tennant) and the Ghost of Christmas Future (Roger Lloyd-Pack). The Christmas ghosts try to convince Nan to change her ways before she dies, sad and forgotten in a nursing home. The special also stars Mathew Horne as Nan's grandson Jamie, while the band Madness appear as carol singers.

David Tennant's Ghost is a flamboyant, metrosexual blend of Russell Brand and Serge from Kasabian, wearing Giorgio Armani and Paul Smith, he's "...up to the minute, constantly changing, ever evolving yet always on trend." Needless to say, Nan is far from impressed.

Catherine Tate says that she came up with the idea only in autumn 2009, not realising how early the BBC decide their Christmas schedule and the channel bosses took some persuading to accommodate the show. Fortunately she succeeded in getting the go-ahead and the show was filmed at the end of November.
