VIDEO: David Tennant Introduces Emmett Carver - Plus New Gracepoint Poster

David Tennant introduces Detective Emmett Carver, his character in Gracepoint, in a brand new clip posted by Entertainment Weekly. Carver is the US counterpart to DI Alec Hardy, the character that David also played in Broadchurch, the UK series upon which Gracepoint is based.

David's commentary suggests many similarities between the two detectives. Carver is a big city cop who has been moved to the small seaside town of Gracepoint in northern California for a quieter life for reasons that are not at once made clear. He and local detective Ellie Miller have a fractious relationship after he apparently took the promotion that she was expecting, and he isn't going out of his way to make friends among the wider community either

"He can come across as perhaps quite short, a little officious, certainly grumpy about the situation he finds himself in," says David. "He certainly doesn't suffer fools gladly."

"His personality is fairly dark, he lives in a fairly dark place, both emotionally and professionally," he adds. "We will also discover during the course of the series that he has some personal demons motivating him. I think he wants to make sure things are done well and properly and the right people are brought to account."
